Coastal Golf Experience at Furry Creek

This is by far one of the most beautiful spots I have seen on a golf course. The 14th hole at Furry Creek presses out on a peninsula into Howe Sound with the Gulf Islands in the background. I have been fortunate to have called the Rocky Mountains and the Okanagan Valley home, visited Arizona and played on some great golf courses; however, this is my favourite hole for in terms of scenery, so far. Furry Creek Golf Course, on the Sea To Sky Highway , is a half hour drive north of Vancouver.

With all three guys playing from their same tee, I decided on the back nine to join on their game. I backed up on to the mens' tees, as I felt that I was playing another game. On this particular hole, I managed to lose a ball to the left into the water, trying to keep up with the men. When the round was complete, I was satisfied knowing that I played 104 and experienced some of the most beautiful scenery in BC.

Okanagan Golf Club Not Quite Open

Please accept my apologies for stating that The Bear was opening on March 19th. I went to join a friend at the clubhouse for lunch today; we quickly learned that they were not open yet! Apparently the new date is this weekend!

Why Train for Golf Fitness?

The common desire among golfers of all skill levels, be it a beginner or a professional golfer on the tour circuit, is to play better golf. Each and every golfer wants to improve his/her score and lower his/her handicap.

Keep in mind that golf is a highly athletic event. There are many beliefs that golf is a game of technical skill. It is; however, it is also important to understand the level of exertion and muscle activation involved in the golf swing. This makes golf comparable to sports such as football, hockey and martial arts. Amateur golfers achieve 90% of their peak muscle activity when driving a golf ball (same lifting intensity as picking up a weight that can only be lifted four times before total fatigue).

In my next posts, we will discuss why yoga is a great training method for golfers.
